The first annual Terrell County reuinion is now history. The attendees in Hampton Virginia 23-26 OCT 2003 were:

LCDR Harry Kinsley CO 1965-68
SMC Bill Miller 1965-68
CS1 Al DeRosia 1968-70
RM2 George O'Connell 1960-62
EN2 Dave :Labar 1966-70
SM3 Ron Miller 1964-66
QM3 Clovis Long 1969-72
GMG3 Bill McKee 1964-66
YN3 Bud White 1956-57
PN3 Charles Burton 1956-57
SMSN Ron Bulmer 1964-66

Despite a 'shaky' start things went well for the most part. This was a 'shared' reunion with LST-1156/1171 class and from what I could get for a count we had the highest turnout.

Let me have some input on some dates and places for a future reunion...I am kind of leaning toward a central US location next year, but am open to all suggestions. Would appreciate some kind of response etc as it takes approx a year to set one of these things up so if we decide on another one (by ourselves) we need to get cranking ASAP.

ALL Hands,

Could you please give me a recount on whether or not you will be at the reunion on 23OCT in Hampton Va.

I would appreciate an ANSWER FROM eveyrone, a simple YES OR NO will suffice, No matter what you may have indicated before.

REMEMBER, THE ROOMS MUST BE RESERVED BY 23SEPT -- if you are attending and NOT using the hotel could you please indicate that also.. We need a head count to see what may possibly show up at a dinner or buffett or whatever....

Thanks,
George O'Connell

Tours Program Overview for LST 1171 Class Association

Friday, October 24, 2003, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM LITTLE CREEK AMPHIBIOUS BASE TOUR AND TRAINING DEMO, LUNCH INCLUDED AT CPO CLUB, VISIT TO NAUTICUS AND BATTLESHIP WISCONSIN & RIDING NORFOLK CITY TOUR

Board the motor coach with your guide and enjoy a visit to the Amphibious Base at Little Creek, home to about 30 ships of the Atlantic Fleet's amphibious forces. Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base is located on 11,000 acres adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay and provides many of the troop and tank carrying ships for the Marine Corps. It is the largest amphibious base in the world. Enjoy a windshield tour of the base, and view an amphibious training film and simulator (scale model of an amphibious assault). Lunch will be provided on base at the CPO Club. Next, enjoy a visit to Norfolk's premier attraction, Nauticus, The National Maritime Center. Features here include a series of ingenious interactive exhibits, shows, and theaters. Enjoy the Academy Award nominated film "The Living Seas" which celebrates the beauty, power, and significance of the ocean, all shown in 70 MM on a giant screen, as well as the film "The Last Battleship". Also housed here is the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, one of ten museums officially operated by the U.S. Navy. Highlights of naval battles and exhibits of detailed ship models, artwork and memorabilia are showcased in the museum. A true highlight of your visit to Nauticus will be a tour of the battleship Wisconsin, one of the famous Iowa-class ships. This great ship saw action in WWII, the Korean War, and most recently in the Persian Gulf War. Wisconsin remains in the Inactive Fleet and is permanently berthed beside Nauticus where it is accessed by a connecting walkway. The main deck and sections of two upper decks are open for you to explore. Following Nauticus learn about Norfolk's colorful 320 year history as you ride through the lovely historic district and restored areas. View the stately homes along the Hague, old St. Paul's Church, the Moses Myers House, the MacArthur Memorial, the Chrysler Museum of Art, the historic Freemason District, and the restored waterfront area, and many other points of interest.

Package price: $42.00 per person, inclusive. (LUNCH INCLUDED) PLEASE NOTE: All passengers visiting ANY military installation MUST have a picture ID card (driver's license, military ID, passport), and no bags other than pocketbooks or camera cases will be allowed on base.
